Build your own AI brain.

Generic answers from AI usually come from missing context. This is how to fix that, once, in a file the AI reads every time.

01You keep re-explaining who you are

Every new chat starts from zero. You explain your business again, your tone again, the thing you already told it last week. The AI is not remembering you. It is guessing, and generic guesses produce generic output.

The fix is not a better prompt written from scratch each time. It is a written context file the AI reads every session, so the explaining happens once instead of every time.

02Three things, in order of effort

  1. One context file.A plain text or markdown file describing who you are, what you do, and how you want things written or built. This is the file the AI reads first, every time.
  2. A folder it can search.Past work, examples, reference material, kept in a structure the AI can look through rather than a single chat's memory.
  3. Small instruction files. For a task you repeat, a short file describing exactly how you want it done, so you stop re-explaining the same recurring job.

03Set it up in four steps

  1. Write the context file first. Not a prompt, a description: who you are, what you do, who you write or build for, and two or three things you always want done a certain way. A page is plenty to start.
  2. Put it where the AI actually reads it.Claude Code and similar tools read a file like CLAUDE.md automatically at the start of a session. Check the docs for whatever tool you use for the exact filename and location.
  3. Add one recurring task as a small instruction file.Pick the task you repeat most - a weekly report, a type of email, a kind of post - and write down exactly how you want it approached. Test it, then adjust the file, not the prompt.
  4. Only then add memory or a multi-step setup.Once the single context file is actually working, more structure - a searchable folder, a second file for a second recurring task, eventually a small team of agents - is worth the effort. Before that, it usually is not.
